Description.

Full service solutions

Bus shelters Ltd. was awarded this design, build and install contract following a competitive tender process. The project scope included  high volume “standard” shelters and low volume “high-end Urban” shelters destined for Bath city centre.  The outline aesthetic designs were provided by the Council’s design consultants. The Linear shelter is the ultimate solution in flexibility and feature provision and we are now able to make this contemporary shelter available to new clients.

Collaborative project process

While a strong aesthetic design intent was provided it did not address numerous other requirements for flexibility, future-proofing, modularity and cost-effective manufacture.  An excellent multi-disciplined project team was established  including the Client and their Consultants. Very detailed analysis and innovative design, developed in a very positive environment has resulted in superb product solutions.

Managing complexity

State-of–the-art 3D Computer Aided Design tools enabled the creation of early visualizations of the scheme, as well as  resolving the complex engineering and operational requirements. The high number and complexity of configurations required to meet the demanding site requirements was managed with the client and manufacturing through rigorous planning and communication  tools.

Full service solutions

Bus Shelters Ltd. were awarded this bespoke project to replace an existing  and dilapidated bus station and stances with a new, high-quality, well designed, functional and efficient  structure. We were commissioned to work with the architects to further develop the initial concept drawings and NBS coded specifications into fully detailed construction drawings which we then used for manufacture and installation.

Diverse material usage

The scheme comprised of 14 stances with automatic door access. These were  spaced along a wide covered walkway constructed from bespoke steel and structurally glazed walls. The bus station buildings were a mix of curtain-wall construction, architectural glazing and tiled block-work.

Managing complexity

State-of–the-art 3D Computer Aided Design tools enabled the creation of early visualizations of the scheme to aid the approval process, as well as  resolving the complex component manufacture and construction. The wide range of construction materials and methods needed for the project required  careful logistics planning, particularly to work with the ground-works contractor and other trades. Rigorous site and Health & Safety management ensured a safe and efficient  installation process.

Description.

Elegant City solution

This project provided 105 advertising bus shelters for installation in Doha, Qatar. The climate is tough, with many extremes, so the shelters were constructed entirely in aluminium using extruded profiles and aluminium composite roofing materials. This enabled us be able to obtain the high degree of aesthetic finish required. The shelters featured LED courtesy up- lighting to the underside of the roof, a slatted hardwood seat and glazed information panel.

International competitive tender

The business was awarded following an international tender process for the detailed design, prototype and  manufacture of a range of shelters. The initial outline aesthetic design was provided by QMedia  to be in keeping with similar structures previously installed.  The products were fully detailed in our 3-D CAD environment and agreed in a fully collaborative process with the client. Following the design phase, prototypes were manufactured and installed. The success of the prototypes led to the award of the manufacturing phase of the project which completed in 2010. The client installed the shelters using their own operations team so we worked closely with them to provide installation documentation, foundation design and advice.

International BSW group collaboration

The shelter was detailed in the Group International Design Centre in the UK working closely with our manufacturing unit in Malaysia from where the product was manufactured, containerised and shipped to site.

Description.

Exceptional solution for an exceptional

development.

The Pearl Qatar is a highly prestigious new development that provides 60,000 residencies based around three marine areas. It provides a full range of amenities including hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and cafés.  The design, attention to detail, quality of materials and finish are paramount.

International tender

The business was awarded following an international tender process for the detailed design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of a range of outdoor advertising and street furniture products. The aesthetic design was provided by KDA, a Canadian design company. This aesthetic had to be followed closely, however, full detailing was required to produce a product that could deliver the aesthetic while surviving the particularly harsh range of temperatures in this coastal environment.

Fully collaborative design process

The products were fully detailed at our International Design Centre in the UK using a 3-D CAD environment and agreed in a fully collaborative process with the client. Specialist processes such as the multicolour and multiscreen glass printing were prototyped at an early phase.  A mix of conventional and LED lighting is used and products have been designed to enable a digital display retrofit at some point in the future when the technology is robust enough for outdoor operation in these temperature extremes. Following design, prototypes were manufactured and installed. The success of the prototypes led to the award of the manufacturing phase of the project.

The strength of the BSW Group

To locally service the contract A BSW Group office was established in Doha and a team of operatives and engineers based locally. The product is further supported by our factory in Malaysia while the design is supported from our international design centre in the UK.

Air conditioned comfort

This prestigious contract provides the air-conditioned bus shelters, in a number of different configurations, to be located across Abu Dhabi.  The design, attention to detail, quality materials and finish are paramount.

International tender

The contract was awarded to Group company RWS Construction (Middle East)  LLC. following an international tender process for the detailed design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of a range of shelters. The initial outline aesthetic design was provided by the DoT to be in keeping with similar structures previously installed. However, during the tender process an alternative design was presented by the Urban Planning Council that was superior in many ways. Working together with all parties the current design was developed. Full detailing was required to produce a product that could deliver the aesthetic while surviving the particularly harsh range of temperatures in this coastal environment. The products were fully detailed in our 3-D CAD environment and agreed in a fully collaborative process with the client. Following design, prototypes were manufactured and installed. The success of the prototypes led to the award of the manufacturing phase of the project which is now in process.

Local action with international support

To locally service the contract A RWS Construction office was established in Abu Dhabi and a team of operatives and engineers based locally. The product is further supported by RWS headquarters in Dubai and the SMFI factory in Malaysia. The design is supported from the Group International Design Centre in the UK.

Shelters for the Tropics

Tropical shelters were required for this ambitious Singapore contract.  ClearChannel Communications (Adshel) won the tender for bus shelter advertising across Singapore. Group company SMFI won the subsequent shelter supply and installation contract for more than 1000 shelters in a wide range of configurations.

Design cooperation

Pre-production design cooperation was critical to ensure economic high quality production. The modular design allowed for different length shelter installations while reducing the stock holding of parts.  The project was successfully completed to the project schedule within 24 months.

Local manufacture

It was this project that established the Malaysian factory facility in 2002 and ensured that the quality and manufacturing processes were put in place to service this large and demanding project.

Description.

Car park shelter solutions Highly cost effective trolley shelters and pedestrian walkways have been developed to service particularly retail car park locations. Our design solutions are robust while retaining a quality aesthetic in keeping with our clients brand image.

Choice of materials

Both galvanised steel and aluminium structures are available. Roofs are polycarbonate, however, we prefer to offer safety glass sides to our shelters as they provide a higher quality look throughout the lifetime of the shelter. Shelter protection is provided through the us of galvanised steel trolley rails running inside and outside the perimeter of the product.

Branding opportunities

A number of our clients use these products as an opportunity to help to promote their brand through customised colours, logos, vinyl wraps and other devices. We are always happy to discuss and accommodate these added value requests.

Full service options

Products are delivered to site using our own transport fleet of vehicles complete with HIAB lifting facilities and typically  installed by our in-house construction engineering teams. Our experienced project managers and site personnel are fully trained for traffic and pedestrian management as well as the latest health & safety  practices.

Gates at an iconic location

Transport for London working in conjunction with the London  River Authority required a new and contemporary solution to modernise  the Greenwich Pier gates at this iconic area of London.

Design considerations

This marine location is tough on materials so the design makes the best use of electro polished 316 grade stainless steel coupled with laminated glazing mounted on a stainless steel spider fixing system. The location signage is constructed from polyester powder coated aluminium sheets with an appropriate internal structure. Materials were optimised through structural analysis while providing the required levels of health and safety and vandalism protection.

Challenging installation

The historic nature of this site made the ground work and installation a challenge, however, effective site survey and preparation as well as our in-house installation teams achieved a first-class installation within the required time- scale.
